Fall Fun Guide: Best Seasonal Activities Your Family Will Love in Cumming, Alpharetta, and Beyond

The air is getting crisp, the leaves are changing, and your kids are asking, “What can we do this weekend?”
Every year, I feel like fall flies by faster than it should. We go from school routines to holiday chaos in the blink of an eye, and if I don’t plan ahead, I find myself missing out on the best parts of the season. That’s why every September, I make it a point to soak in all the family-friendly fall fun our little corner of Georgia has to offer.
One of our favorite traditions? Apple picking at BJ Reece Orchards. It’s become our way of officially kicking off the season, and now my kids look forward to it every year. Whether it’s visiting a pumpkin patch or grabbing cider at a festival, fall in North Georgia is packed with memory-making opportunities for families and today, I’m sharing our favorite picks so you don’t miss a thing.
Visit a Pumpkin Patch Near Cumming or Dahlonega
Nothing says fall quite like a pumpkin patch, and North Georgia has some of the best around. Whether you’re picking out the perfect pumpkin, snacking on kettle corn, or going on a hayride with your littles, these spots are made for family memories.
Favorite Local Pumpkin Patches
Burt’s Pumpkin Farm (Dawsonville)
A true North Georgia favorite! Giant pumpkins, tractor hayrides, homemade pumpkin pies, and stunning mountain views make this a can’t-miss spot. We go every year for pumpkins and the hayride and it’s a tradition my kids absolutely love.
Uncle Shuck’s Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch (Dawsonville)
Known for its fun corn maze, Uncle Shuck’s also has a jumping pad, giant slide, and bonfires on the weekends. My kids are obsessed with the bounce area, and the maze is the perfect mix of fun and manageable for younger children.
Warbington Farms (Cumming)
Closer to home? Warbington is a great option for families with toddlers. Their fall festival weekends include hayrides, a petting zoo, and a pumpkin patch with a laid-back, cozy vibe.
Insider Tips
- Best Time to Go: Weekday mornings or early weekends to beat the crowds
- What to Bring: Layers for chilly mornings, sunscreen for sunny days, and a wagon for tired legs (or heavy pumpkins)
- Don’t Miss: The cider slushies at Burt’s and the nighttime bonfires at Uncle Shuck’s

Explore Fall Foliage Trails in North Georgia
Fall is the time to get outside and the leaf show in North Georgia never disappoints. Even with little ones, there are some easy and scenic spots to stretch your legs and snap a few golden-hour photos.
Best Trails for Fall Color
Dahlonega Trails + Scenic Roads
Truthfully, anywhere in Dahlonega is magical in the fall. The drive alone is gorgeous, and many of the public parks and scenic roads are framed with vibrant color by mid to late October. Explore Dahlonega’s tourism site here.
Garrard Landing Park (Roswell/Alpharetta)
Tucked away just outside of Alpharetta, this park has beautiful walking trails that light up with color in fall. It’s stroller-friendly and a great place to bring kids for a quiet nature walk or impromptu leaf pile jumping.
Tips for Trail Time with Kids
- Bring comfy shoes (for you and the kids!)
- Pack a few nature scavenger hunt ideas to keep toddlers engaged
- Mornings are usually cooler and quieter
- Don’t forget jackets… says the mom who always forgets jackets
Attend a Local Fall Festival or Fair
Nothing beats a classic fall festival and North Georgia goes all out. The smells of funnel cake, the sound of local bands, and the glow of fair lights at night? Pure nostalgia.
Must-Visit Events
Cumming Country Fair & Festival
Held every October, this is a big deal in our area, and for good reason. Rides, animals, live shows, and all the fair food you can dream of. I’ve been going since I was a kid, and now I get to bring my kids, which makes it all the more special.
Dawsonville Moonshine Festival
Yes, it’s family-friendly! Tons of vendors, car shows, live music, and delicious southern food. It’s a great place to stroll, snack, and soak up small-town fall charm.
Gold Rush Days (Dahlonega)
Held in mid-October, this huge arts & crafts festival draws families from all over the state. With booths, food trucks, and historic charm, it’s an annual favorite for many locals.
Festival Tips
- Bring cash, especially for parking and small vendors
- Go early to avoid parking headaches
- Set a spending budget for kids’ games and food stalls (they add up fast!)
- Pack a stroller for toddlers and tired legs

Other Favorite Fall Activities in North Georgia
Apple Picking at BJ Reece Orchards (Ellijay)
This is our fall kickoff tradition. The drive is beautiful, the views are stunning, and picking your own apples is surprisingly fun for all ages. Bonus: Their bakery is full of fall treats worth the trip on their own (apple fritters, anyone?).
Corn Maze Adventures at Uncle Shuck’s
We love Uncle Shuck’s maze! It’s big enough to feel like an adventure, but not so big that you’ll get lost for hours. They even have a kid-friendly path and fun nighttime maze events.
Historic Charm in Downtown Dahlonega
Between the festivals, foliage, and mountain views, Dahlonega is one of the most charming spots for a fall weekend. Grab a cider, stroll through the square, and enjoy the music and mountains.
What to Wear for Fall Fun (Especially with Kids)
Fall weather in North Georgia can be unpredictable: sunny and warm one day, crisp and chilly the next. Here’s how to stay comfortable and prepared for any outdoor activity:
Dress in Layers
Mornings start cold, afternoons heat up. Think leggings or jeans with a long sleeve + lightweight pullover or vest. For babies and toddlers: zip-up hoodies and hats are lifesavers.
Footwear Tips
- Pumpkin Patch or Corn Maze? Waterproof boots or sneakers you don’t mind getting dirty.
- Trail Walks? Comfy, supportive shoes with traction.
- Festivals? Something easy to walk in for hours (skip the cute sandals).
Don’t Forget
- Jackets (trust me, I always forget!)
- Wipes (for cider spills, sticky fingers, and muddy shoes)
- Portable snack stash
- Mini first-aid kit for toddler tumbles
